Should Christians observe christmas?

Some key Scriptures....

Deuteronomy 4  Hear now, O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.  2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
Deuteronomy 12: 32
See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.
Proverbs 30: 6 Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Matt 15:6  Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.  7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8 ”‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’”
1 Cor 4:6 (NIV) Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written."
Rev 20: 18
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.  19 And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

God's commandments in the Bible are clear. Does the Word of God instruct us to celebrate Jesus' birth? If it does, then we are obliged to celebrate it as a form of worship. If it doesn't, then we are commanded not to add to God's Words or commandments. Let's look at this interesting subject....

When the Christ-child was born, "there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night" (Luke 2:8).
This could never have occurred in Judea in the month of December. The shepherds always brought their flocks from the mountainsides and fields and corralled them not later than October 15, to protect them from the cold, rainy season that followed that date. Notice that the Bible itself proves, in Song of Solomon 2:11 and Ezra 10:9, 13, that winter was a rainy season not permitting shepherds to abide in open fields at night.  "It was an ancient custom among Jews of those days to send out their sheep to the fields and deserts about the Passover (early spring), and bring them home at commencement of the first rain," says the Adam Clarke Commentary (Vol. 5, page 370, New York ed.)  Continuing, this authority states: "During the time they were out, the shepherds watched them night and day. The first rains began early in the Hebrew month of Marchesvan, which corresponds to our October and November [it begins sometime in October] at which time, the shepherds brought home their flocks. And, as these shepherds had not yet brought home their flocks, it is a presumptive argument that October had not yet commenced. Another fact is that in the month of December, there were no flocks out in the fields.

Therefore, Jesus was NOT born in December, nor could He have been born any later than September, by virtue of the very fact that the flocks were still in the fields by night. The feeding of the flocks by night in the fields is a chronological fact ... See the quotations from the Talmudists in “Lightfoot”.  Further to this, any encyclopedia, or any other historical authority, will tell you that Christ was not born on December 25. The Catholic Encyclopedia rankly states this fact. The exact date of Jesus' birth is entirely unknown, as all authorities acknowledge. If God had wished us to observe and celebrate Christ's birthday, He would not have so completely hidden the exact date.

On these very simple grounds, all so-called ‘Christians’ should fundamentally question the nativity as the “remembrance of the birth of Christ”. Don't get me wrong here... I'm not debating the day on which christmas should be celebrated - the point is, as I will elucidate below, that we were never called to celebrate Jesus' birth, rather to remember His death.

(Reference - The 2 Babylons, by Rev Alexander Hyslop; Published in 1853)

Nimrod, grandson of Ham (the son of Noah), was the founder of the Babylonian system that has gripped the world ever since -- the system of organized competition -- of man-made traditions -- ruled governments and empires, based upon the competitive and profit-making economic system. Nimrod built the tower of Babel, the original Babylon, ancient Nineveh, and many other cities. He was a fearsome warrior and tyrant, destroying multitudes in his wake. He organized this world's first kingdom. The name Nimrod, in Hebrew, is derived from "Marad", meaning, "he rebelled."  From many ancient writings we learn that this man started the great-organized worldly apostasy from God that has dominated this world until now. It has even been said that Nimrod, for all intents and purposes, was the founder of Satanism and Satanic worship. Nimrod was the ruler of the entire Assyrian Empire for many years. In the book of Micah, the entire land of Assyria is spoken of as Nimrod's land.

Nimrod was so evil, it is documented that he married his own mother, whose name was Semiramis. After Nimrod's untimely death, his so-called mother-wife, Semiramis, in an effort to maintain power of the Assyrian Empire, propagated the evil doctrine of the resurrection of Nimrod as a spirit being. She claimed that a full-grown evergreen tree sprang up overnight from a dead tree stump, known as Asherah, which symbolized the springing forth unto new life of the dead Nimrod. This evergreen tree is even mentioned in the Bible, where the disobedient Israelites had gotten into hideous idolatory in the times of King Hezekiah.

(In 2 Kings 18  Hezekiah removed the high places and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it;
Notice here, that the Israelites were burning incense to the bronze serpent – they were worshipping a bronze snake! Notice also, here in verse 4, the mention of high places, sacred pillars and Asherah – (the KJV says groves, but a better translation is the Hebrew word Asherah). Asherah was the symbol of the Pagan goddess Astarte, the equivalent of the Assyrian goddess Ishtar or Semiramis, the “queen of heaven”. Its symbol was the trunk of a tree planted in the ground, with an evergreen shape at the top, and this was known amongst the Pagans as the tree of life.)

Semiramis then began the most awful sacrifice imaginable. She sacrificed babies unto the Sun God, severing their heads and tying them as decorations/baubles to this evergreen tree. This is the origin of the Christmas tree, believe it or not!

On each anniversary of his resurrection, she claimed that Nimrod would visit the evergreen tree and leave gifts upon it. As the great deceiver would have it, December 25th was the birth date of Nimrod.  Through her scheming and designing, Semiramis became the Babylonian "Queen of Heaven”, and Nimrod, under various names, became the "divine and immaculately conceived son of heaven." Through the generations, in this idolatrous worship, Nimrod also became the false Messiah, son of Baal the Sun god. In this false Babylonian system, the "Mother and Child" (Semiramis and Nimrod reborn) became chief objects of worship. This is the origin of Christmas.

This worship of "Mother and Child" spread all over the world. The names varied in different countries and languages. In Egypt it was Isis and Osiris. In Asia, Cybele and Deoius. In pagan Rome, Fortuna and Jupiter. Even in Greece, China, Japan and Tibet can be found the counterpart of the Madonna, long before the birth of Christ. Thus, during the fourth and fifth centuries, when the pagans of the Roman world were "accepting" the new popular "Christianity" by the hundreds of thousands, they carried their old pagan customs and beliefs along with them, merely cloaking them with Christian-sounding names. The Madonna and "Mother and Child" idea also became popularized, especially at christmas time. Every christmas season you'll hear sung and chanted dozens of times the hymn "Silent Night, Holy Night," with its familiar "Mother and Child" theme.

Now, when Constantine the great became the Roman Emperor in about 300 AD, he supposedly converted to Christianity. He co-erced all his empire to become Christians, which is something we all know that you cannot do. You can’t force someone to become a Christian. The impact of this forced conversion was that millions of pagans brought all the customs of Baal worship with them, which then became merged into a corrupt  Christianity - which became the foundation of Catholicism. So instead of the 25th December being Nimrod’s birth, they changed it to represent Christ’s birth and continued celebrating it.

The real origin of christmas unfortunately goes all the way back to ancient Babylon. It is bound up in the organized apostasy, which has gripped a deceived world. (Who is the god of this world?) In Egypt, it was always believed that the son of Isis (Egyptian name for "Queen of Heaven") was born December 25th. Paganism celebrated this famous birthday throughout the known world for centuries before the birth of Christ.  December 25th is not the birthday of Jesus, the true Christ, but the birthday of one of the most evil humans ever; the veritable founder of Satanism.

How is it possible that Satan (the great deceiver) has hoodwinked millions of ‘Christians’? Because so many follow the traditions of men, instead of placing their trust in the One Almighty God and His infallible Word.

The apostles and early true Church never celebrated Christ's birthday at any time. There is no command or instruction to celebrate it in the Bible, not even a hint. If God wanted us to celebrate Jesus' birth, would He have so completely and utterly neglected to tell us when and how?

What Encyclopedia's Say:
The word "Christmas" means "Mass of Christ," or, as it came to be shortened, "Christ-Mass." It came to non-Christians and Protestants from the Roman Catholic Church, through Constantine, who allowed corruption of Christendom by paganism. (Remember, Rome was always pagan). Since the celebration of Christmas has come to the world from the Roman Catholic Church, and has no authority but that of the Roman Catholic Church, let us examine the Catholic Encyclopedia, 1911 edition, published by that church.

Under the heading "Christmas," you will find:  "Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church ... the first evidence of the feast is from Egypt. Pagan customs centering around the January calends gravitated to Christmas."  And in the same encyclopedia, under the heading "Natal Day," we find that the early Catholic father, Origen, acknowledged this truth: "... In the Scriptures, no one is recorded to have kept a feast or held a great banquet on his birthday. It is only sinners [like Pharaoh and Herod] who make great rejoicings over the day in which they were born into this world".

Encyclopedia Britannica, 1946 ed, has this: "Christmas (i.e., the Mass of Christ) .... Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the church ....It was not instituted by Christ or the apostles, nor by Bible authority. It was picked up afterward from paganism.”

The Encyclopedia Americana, 1944 ed, says: "Christmas .... It was, according to many authorities, not celebrated in the first centuries of the Christian church, as the Christian usage in general was to celebrate the death of remarkable persons rather than their birth ....(The Last Supper communion, which is instituted by New Testament Bible authority, is a memorial of the death of Christ.)”

A feast was established in memory of this event [Christ's birth] in the fourth century. In the fifth century the Western Church ordered it to be celebrated “forever on the day of the old Roman feast of the birth of Nimrod/Sol, as no certain knowledge of the day of Christ's birth existed."

These recognized historical authorities show that Christians did not observe christmas for the first two or three hundred years -- It got into the Western, or Roman Church, by the fourth century A.D. It was not until the fifth century that the Roman Catholic Church ordered it to be celebrated as an official Christian festival.

What About the christmas Tree?
But if the Bible is silent about telling us to observe christmas, or recording any such observance by the apostles or early true Church, it does have something to say about the christmas tree.
Jeremiah 10:2-6: "Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen .... For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not."

Does christmas really honour Christ?
Now come two arguments often used to justify christmas observance.

1)       Many will reason this way: "But, even though the exact date of Jesus' birth is unknown, should we not select some date to celebrate as His birthday?" Aaron the High Priest of Israel, declared a feast unto the Lord after they manufactured the golden calf, before Moses came down from the mountain. 3000 people died in God's judgement because of this. Humans CANNOT decide on a day that they wish to dedicate unto the Lord - this is worshipping Him on our terms, unacceptable to the Lord God Almighty.

2)       But, many others will reason, -- “even though christmas is a pagan custom, honouring the false sun-god, we don't observe it to honour the false god, we observe it to honour Christ and anyway, God knows my heart and my motives."  But how does GOD answer in His Word?
"Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them [the pagans in their customs] ... that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Eternal, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods" (Deut. 12:30-31).

God knows my heart? - This is such a cop out, used so many times by ignorant Christians. God certainly does know your heart, and you know what He says about your heart?

Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately wicked; Who can understand it?

·         GOD says we must not worship Him according to the "dictates of our own conscience" (ie: The “God knows my heart” cop-out -- a term we so often hear.

·         Jesus said plainly, "God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). And what is truth? God's Word -- the Holy Bible -- is the truth (John 17:17); and the Bible says God will not accept worship when people take a pagan custom or manner of worship and try to honour Christ with it.

·         Again, Jesus said: "In vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matt. 15:9).

1 Corinthians 11: 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do THIS in remembrance of me."

1 Corinthians 11:26  For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

He didn't say remember me by my birth! Rather, remember my death until I return.

Christmas observance is a tradition of men, and the commandments of God, as quoted, forbid it. Jesus said further, "full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."  That is precisely what millions are doing today. They ignore the commandment of God. He commands, regarding taking the customs of the pagans and using them to honour or worship God: "Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God." As you sow, so shall you reap on Judgement Day.
Jesus was the living Word of God in Person, and the Bible is the written Word of God. And we shall be judged, for eternity, by these words. They should not be taken lightly or ignored.  We have professed to be Christian, but we're in Babylon, just as Bible prophecy foretold, and we don't even know it! "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues" is the warning of Revelation 18:4.

By following the religious traditions of men, we deny Christ and we insult the Spirit of Grace.
Let us all be warned: Heb 10:29 – “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant an unholy thing, and hath done insult unto the Spirit of Grace? 30 Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. The Lord shall judge His people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.”

The same principles must be applied to Easter.

He that hath an ear, let him hear. Amen.
