PSYCHOLOGY is UNSCRIPTURAL
In Secular psychology, much of the focus is on
SELF (self-esteem, self worth, self-acceptance, self-love)
ie - you have to love yourself in order to be able to
love others.
This is a fundamentally flawed
concept, since Ephesians 5: 29 tells
us: "29For
no
man ever yet hated his own flesh;
but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord the church:"
The Bible knows that EVERY man loves
himself, automatically, otherwise man wouldn't even feed himself. There is NO
MAN that does not love himself. Why then do they need to teach self-esteem,
self-worth?
Further
to this is the commandment by Christ Himself to love our neighbours as we
love ourselves. It is ASSUMED as a fait-accomplit that we already LOVE
OURSELVES!
The entire theme of Colossians is DIE TO SELF, SUPPRESSION OF SELF, LOVE NOT THE WORLD NOR ANYTHING IN IT - what then are the teachings of Psychology?
Psychology teaches
That
our goal in life is to ADJUST
TO MY FELLOW MAN
"Of course, to win for one's self
a place in society and so transform one's nature that it is more or less
fitted to this existence, is in every instance an important
achievement." -DR. CARL G. JUNG
that the cause of many people's problems stem from a "DYSFUNCTIONAL CHILDHOOD";
FASTENING GUILT ON PARENTS OR SOCIETY;
FREEING REPRESSED DESIRES;
DRUGS - anti-depressants;
PSYCHOANALYSIS;
SENSITIVITY TRAINING;
GROUP
THERAPY; ETC.-
"And until one has 'worked through' and resolved his guilt in the face
of mankind, he is not fully healed and whole." -
DR. O. HORART MOWRER
The
Bible teaches that ALL our problems stem from SIN.
The Bible teaches that the
answer to ALL OUR PROBLEMS is FAITH
IN JESUS CHRIST-
"Wherefore, if any man be in Christ, he is
a new creature: old
things are passed away; behold, all
things are become new."
2 Corinthians 5:17. See also John 3:3,16; I Corinthians 6:9-11 and Luke 4:
4.
"Well has it been said, `To dispossess a man then, of his self-esteem and self-sufficiency, to make room for God in his heart where there was previously no room but for sin, to hurl down pride of nature, to make stout imaginations stoop to the cross, to make designs of self- advancement sink under a zeal for the glory of God and an overruling design for His honor, is not to be ascribed to any but to an outstretched arm wielding the sword of the Spirit'."
